Lebanon - While A Nation Weeps
Shh… Did you hear that?
Frightened whispers from the past?
People trembling with suppressed energy,
Whilst looking at the plundered, aghast?
The deafening silence of the pervading night,
That enveloped her soul with overwhelming fright,
A girl tugged at her Dad, wanting to know why,
Why the blood on his uniform, the tear in his eye?
Did you see that?
The weeping Lebanese faces,
Crowding the confined alleyway spaces,
Some scars will always remain,
Masked, but reflecting pain!
The starry skies were carnal black,
Even the tinted clouds seemed morose,
Gelid hands gripped onto broken glass,
As they gazed upon their loss.
Did you feel that?
A haze of smoke engulfed the skies,
With the blinding and defeating explosion,
Throngs of masses, reduced to dust,
Survivor guilt as large as an ocean!
The economy is decimating and people are migrating,
But you won’t mend your ways so soon,
You will profit off of their political tensions,
While a few more lives are lost, a few more bodies strewn.
Was it all just perfumed lies?
Lebanon, were you just being nice,
When you promised them peaceful lives,
But coupled it with unleashing thirst, parching lips, and sighs?
Did your bodies not tremble when you saw them weep?
Did you not feel a sense of void?
Or was it just another life you’d taken,
Another home that you’d destroyed?
Her father’s body lay there, covered in torn garments
Today, this nation had become what she despised,
But as she embraced him for the last time,
A tear rolled down her eyes.
She joined the rest of them on the streets,
Praying for justice, praying for peace,
Lebanon, from your clutches, a rebel was born,
Praying for resilience after a blazing storm.
While the nation weeps, and emotions creep
They just hope to restore tranquility.
And the souls anguished by separation?
Well they, they hope for the resurgence of the nation!
